Product Description

Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Distilled and Aged in Louisville, Kentucky Bower Hill commemorates the "Battle of Bower Hill" which was the first bloodshed of the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794. The Mingo Creek militiamen numbering nearly six hundred surrounded federal tax inspector General John Neville's fortified home, Bower Hill. The battle took the lives of two rebel leaders, Oliver Miller and Major James McFarlane, a veteran of the Revolutionary War, as well as a few U.S. soldiers defending the Bower Hill home. Upon completion of the two day battle, the home was razed by fire. The Rebellion originated from the Excise Whiskey tax of 1791. The farmers who resisted, many of them war veterans, contended that they were fighting for the principles of the American Revolution. This very small batch bourbon is hand selected & proudly bottled by: Bower Hill Distillery, Silverton, Ohio. Our lineup of award winning bourbons are among some of the very best; with aroma notes of fresh crushed spices, vanilla bean, & caramel; palates with heavy notes of baked plum, raisins, & sweet clover; long finishing with what seems to have no end. Pleasant, refined, and polished. Bower Hill Bourbons are distilled & aged in Louisville, Kentucky resting in new oak barrels. Our proprietary mash bill consists of no less that 70% corn, with a big helping of rye rounded off with a touch of malted barley. Crafted in the Spirit of Rebellion pays homage to our founding fathers with the notion that we will not be unnecessarily taxed. The crossed flags on the bottle are the true historical whiskey rebellion flags with one boldly stating: "Equal Taxation and no Excise." These men dared to defy government and won the battle; but ultimately lost the war (on taxes that is). In keeping with this belief Bower Hill has decided to donate a portion of proceeds to the "Americans for Tax Reform" foundation to honor the men whom defied excise tax, no matter what the cost. Enjoy, The Bower Hill Boys
