By distilling each of these ingredients individually, express the character of each distinctive profile for a commanding, aromatic, and overproofed gin that honors the maritime tradition. Beginning in the 18th Century, the Royal Navy rationed "proof spirits," (later dubbed "navy strength spirits") to their ships' crews. These spirits were stored alongside gunpowder, and were intentionally kept at a higher proof. Should the spirits spill and drench the munitions, the higher proof would enable the soaked gunpowder to ignite.
