Zacapa Rum is a blend of rums aged for at least 6 years in our dynamic Sistema Solera, in the cool air of the Guatemalan highlands at 2300 meters above sea level, allowing the rum to mature more slowly in the barrels. Like cooking over a low flame, these conditions allow Zacapa to obtain exceptionally deep aromas, rich color and profound flavor. The magic of aging is inspired by the Sistema Solera, where our rum begins its journey in barrels that previously aged American whiskey. The second stage occurs in charred American oak barrels. In the third stage we use barrels that previously aged Sherry wines. The final and distinctive touch is provided by barrels that previously aged Pedro Ximenez wines. The woven straw petate is a Mayan symbol for the unity of time and space and represented nobility in ancient times. The petate bands on each bottle are individually handmade by women from three villages descended from the Mayan. We are proud to honor our Guatemalan roots on every bottle of Zacapa.
