Product Description

History Worth Repeating. When Bill Samuels, Sr., burned his family's 170-year-old family whisky recipe in 1953, it wasn't by accident. Fed up with the hot, harsh, "blow your ears off" whiskey his family (and virtually every other distiller) had been making for years, he was determined to create a bourbon that wouldn't burn on the way down and was consistently delicious. In doing so, he'd reinvent bourbon itself. Using locally grown red winter wheat rather than rye and aging his whiskey to taste - not time - Bill, Sr., eventually found the full-flavored, remarkably smooth taste he was after. Dubbed Maker's Mark by his wife, Margie, and hand-dripped in its signature red wax, this revolutionary bourbon would represent the entirety of the Samuels family production for the next 50 years. That changed when their son, Bill Samiels, Jr., was inspired to leave a mark of his own. With some trial and error and much perseverance, Maker's 46 was born. Thanks to finishing in barrels specially modified with toasted French oak staves like the ones below, Maker's 46 Delivers bigger, bolder flavors with the drinkability you's expect from Maker's Mark. Age - To Maturity Proof - 94 Aroma - Hints of wood staves, caramel and sweetness Taste - Very intense flavors, a big crescendo of wood blending perfectly with deep, complex and rich notes of vanilla and caramel Finish - Long and smooth, beginning on the back of the tongue and continually moving forward.

Falstaff · November 2023
Very integrated aromas with nut, honey, coconut and slightly peppery tobacco. A deep palate with orangey sweetness, cocoa milk and espresso are vivid in dense layers. Compact finish with a very long aftertaste.

Clear caramel notes are joined by a hint of bergamot oil and black tea on the nose. On the palate, the mature wood initially has a powerful effect … Fine ginger spiciness on the finish.
92 ptsNovember 2021falstaff.com ↗
The nose is full of aromas of caramel and cocoa powder. On the palate it is full-bodied with deep lemon and ginger notes that linger on the finish. In addition, there is a well-judged but evident use of oak.

Sweet corn notes as well as salted peanut and almost tropical dried fruit give a soft overall impression on the nose. Tobacco-like wood offers a stronger attack, then softer again with a chocolate-grape-nut finish.
93 ptsAugust 2019falstaff.com ↗
In addition to clear hints of dried fruit, arancini and fresh vanilla pulp, tobacco and cedar wood are complexly mixed in the aroma. The powerful taste has clear notes of raw chocolate, tobacco and spice on the long finish.

A lush aroma with some lovage, cedar wood, leather and sour drops. The strong alcohol supports the full body. Cinnamon and some cereal sweetness are dominated by oak on the palate.
Beverage Testing Institute · August 2026
Aromas and flavors of fresh cut pear and apples, Sherried banana-raisin pudding, truffle honey, and wildflowers … This elegant whiskey will appeal to Highland Scotch drinkers, subtle with fine complexity of honey, wildflowers, ice wine and orchard fruit.

Aromas and flavors of cinnamon coffee cake re-warmed over a glass of espresso … Sweet on the nose with some slightly bitter chocolate on the palate to balance it out; this Bourbon is inviting and a really well-crafted sipper.

Wine Enthusiast · Kara Newman · September 2010
On the tongue, it's punch-in-the-nose dry and biting. Best served on ice, which takes down the burn and lets the pronounced woody flavors come through: lots of oak, strong tea and cigar tobacco.
