What critics and judges wrote
Despite the rich, buttery scent this single malt sips relatively dry. Rounded pear and sherry notes lead the palate at first, drying to leather and cigar wrapper and finishing long, with lemon zest and ginger zing. … Amazing complexity.

The spirit has a smooth, soft feel and a touch of juicy sweetness. Look for caramel and vanilla and rather aggressive oakiness, finishing with orange peel. Best with some time to open up.
The initial whiffs find layers of honey, flowers and light toffee … at midpalate tastes of burnt apple crisp, orange zest, fudge and candied nuts appear. Finishes as grandly and stately as it began.
Orchard fruit aromas with fruity pears dominant; cask spice on the palate, herbal bergamot notes and moorland honey blending with creamy vanilla and brown sugar.

Here we have wonderfully fragrant aromas of toffee and vanilla cream, leading to flavours of dried raisin and rich honey. Malty and densely packed, with a lifted green edge to the finish. Quite marvellous!
Desserts galore come to mind with this whisky. The aroma is bursting of fresh lemon hand pies … Even with all of these sweet, heavy descriptors, there is a zing to this whisky that keeps it fresh and alive.
