What critics and judges wrote

Falstaff · September 2022
Dry oak notes on the nose, with additional very tobacco-like notes, a light vanilla gives the aroma good complexity. A versatile mouthfeel has all the typical savoury notes, with subtle hints of milk chocolate lingering onto the finish.

Very intense oaky aromas are immediately noticeable on the nose, with smoky notes, a hint of vanilla and green banana. Very pronounced on the palate with a powerful creamy texture. Medium length.

The aroma is versatile, with hearty vanilla pulp, spicy oakiness, and a nutty-tart note. Full-bodied on the palate, with white pepper and tobacco, and a lovely spiciness on the finish.

Pure vanilla pulp paired with exotic dried fruits and a hint of sweetish malt are vivid in the aroma. Animating and smooth in the mouth, a good tobacco note and lots of spices come to the fore in the finish.
Distiller · Tim Knittel
Rough nose with charred oak verging on sawdust. … The palate matches the nose with heavy smoke overshadowing the sweet caramel and butterscotch. Rough texture on the palate and hot on the finish.

Whisky Advocate · Fred Minnick · 2016
Wood. From the lumberyard to the charred barrels, wood powers over grain, caramel, vanilla, and earth. … It lacks balance and complementary flavors to the oak … Decent first release, but I wanted to find more nuance from the second barrel.

IWSC judges · Silver Outstanding · 2017
The lightness of the oak works with the spices in the mash bill to create an easy nosing, and easy drinking whisky with hints of root beer, cherry cola, BBQ and freshly ground ginger powder.

A shy nose with a long-lasting woody finish. Well balanced oak notes, and some hints of white flowers and a hint of sulphur.
