Product Description

W.L. Weller was born in Kentucky in the year 1825. After serving with the Louisville Brigade in the 1840s, Weller returned to Louisville to open his wholesale liquor business. He is reported to have used the slogan "Honest Whiskey at an Honest Price." His wheated recipe bourbon had a softer, smoother taste that became very popular. Pappy Van Winkle eventually merged Weller's namesake company with A. PH. Stitzel Distillery to form the Stitzel-Weller Distillery. This delicate bourbon with hints of caramel and honey honors one of America's first whiskey pioneers.

Bold aromas of warm cherry pie filling, sweet spices, and saddle leather portend a rich sipping experience. The palate is indeed rather substantial, with more of the same cooked cherry notes, cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg.

… the wheated bourbon still brings caramel-forward joy … Enjoy the short bursts of crème brulee, praline, honey, Jolly Rancher watermelon candy, and a hint of nutmeg, because it's not there long. You can see the potential.

The nose begins with creamy butter ice cream and some white grapes. The palate gets a little more complex with some sweet spice, a touch of cedar wood and eucalyptus that gets creamy again.
