In 1805, the Mitchell merchant family commenced trading on 10 Grafton St, in the heart of Dublin city as purveyors of confectionery, wines and fortified wines. In 1887, the entrepreneurial family expanded into the whiskey bonding business, whereby they sent empty wine, sherry and port casks vis horse and cart to the local Jameson Distillery on Bow St. These were then filled and returned to the Mitchell's cellar warehouse on Fitzwilliam Lane. There, beneath cobbled streets, the whiskey matured for many years before being bottled and sold. To this day, Mitchells sell a range of whiskeys under their 'Spot' brand name. This rather peculiar name originated from their practice of marketing casks of different ages with a daub or spot of coloured paint. Blue, Red, and Yellow Spot are among the lesser spotted members of this world-renowned whiskey range, but Green Spot emerged as their most well-known. This traditional bonder brand continues to reintroduce the world to the wonders of Irish Whiskey. Enjoy and savour as this is a true gem.
