Cragganmore, founded by the legendary John Smith in 1869, is for many the definitive Speyside malt. Mature and well balanced, with an astonishingly fragrant aroma, the slight fruitiness on the palate is overlaid with sweet, smoky notes with hints of sandalwood. A long finish packed with hints of smoky sweetness brings this delightful, refind experience -- so accessible, yet so rewarding, gently to a close. This whisky is quite the hidden gem in Diageo's Malt Whisky Collection. The whisky is filled with heather, honey, nuts, and pears. Delicate smoke comes in on the palate along with dried cherry and more honeyed nuts.
Pineapple combines with hoppy ale and savoury biscuit in the nose. Sweetens to notes of light fruitcake after a while. The palate is subtly sweet at the start then warm, bready notes set in.
Palate entry is round, borderline plump, breakfast-cereal sweet, and honeyed; at midpalate, there's a slightly oily peat smoke. Sweetly concludes with the focus on the malt.
